Recertification:
NCCER’s Mobile Crane Operator Certification is valid for five (5) years. To maintain your Certified Crane Operator status, you must recertify every five years by completing the full certification process again—this includes both the written assessment and the practical examination for your specific crane type(s).
Key Recertification Requirements:
- You may only begin the recertification process within 180 days (approximately six months) before your current certification expires.
- Both the written and practical exams must be completed within that 180-day window for your recertification to be accepted.
- If your certification expires before recertification is complete, you will lose your certified status and must restart the entire initial certification process.
To avoid lapses in certification, we strongly recommend tracking your expiration date and planning ahead to complete your recertification on time.
Assessment Retest:
If you do not pass your initial crane assessment or practical exam, you may retake it after waiting two days. If additional attempts are needed after the second attempt, a 30-day waiting period applies. You are limited to four attempts within any 12-month period.
If you meet these criteria, you may sign up to take KTI’s NCCER Test Only option.
